Brigade History Cranbourne is located some 45km south east of Melbourne on the South Gippsland Highway making up the southern portion of the City of Casey.
Below is a time line of our history. 1940 - Cranbourne Bush Fire Brigade was established 1944 - Cranbourne Urban Fire Brigade was established 1945 - Cranbourne Bush Fire Brigade changed it's name to Cranbourne Rural Fire Brigade 1994 - Cranbourne Rural Fire Brigade was disbanded and all members and assets were transferred to the Urban Brigade 2005 - Permanent Station Staff are appointed to Cranbourne Fire Urban Fire Brigade
As folk law has it the first fire truck used by the Cranbourne brigade was an ex army truck which was kindly donated by the local police. It is rumored that they found the truck on the side of the road with the keys in it and a sign on the window saying, please take me. I am not sure about the later part of the story, but let’s just say the truck was acquired for a better use. Cranbourne has and still is experiencing enormous growth in terms of population and with the growth in population we are starting to see additional growth in road networks infrastructure and services. Cranbourne Fire Brigade has 15 Permanent Station staff and 35 Volunteer Fire Fighters who attended over 500 calls for the 2007/2008 financial year, these calls ranged from Structure fires, Grass fires, Motor Vehicle Collisions, Hazardous Materials Incidents and Alarms.
